Hispanic Heritage Month in Miami: Celebrating Culture, Food & History in Little Havana
From September 15 to October 15, the United States celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, and there is no better place to feel that celebration than Miami. Hispanic culture is part of the city’s identity. You hear it in the music, taste it in the food, see it in the art, and feel it in the way people gather, talk, and celebrate together.
Miami is shaped by families from Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and many other countries. Every community brings its own flavors and traditions. But for many visitors, the best place to start understanding this story is Little Havana.
Little Havana is where generations of Cuban exiles and immigrants built new lives, opened businesses, and kept their traditions alive. Calle Ocho is full of that history. It is a neighborhood that celebrates its heritage every day, not just one month a year.
Our Little Havana Food, Art & Culture Experience begins at the Bay of Pigs Monument, where guests learn about Cuban exile history and how the neighborhood began. From there, we taste fresh guarapo at El Pinareño Fruit Market, share a croqueta and Cuban colada at Party Cake Bakery, and visit Domino Park, where locals gather to play dominoes and keep an important tradition alive. Guests also see premium cigars being hand rolled at Cuba Tobacco Cigar Co., a multi-generational family business, enjoy a Cuban sandwich and mojito at Cubata, and finish at Havana Collection with classic 1950s cars, local art, and Cuban-inspired fashion.
Hispanic Heritage Month is also a great time to plan your visit around a neighborhood event. Viernes Culturales, or Cultural Fridays, has celebrated art, music, and culture in Little Havana since 2000. It takes place on the last Friday of the month, and this year’s September date is Friday, September 25, starting at noon on Calle Ocho between 8th and 27th Avenues. Expect local artists, galleries, live music, and dancing in the street. The Little Havana Welcome Center, run by Viernes Culturales, is also a helpful stop for a free neighborhood map.
To close out the month, Domino Park hosts Milestones: Hispanic Heritage Finale on Friday, October 16, with live music, dancers, a DJ, local vendors, and family-friendly activities. Admission is free, and advance registration is encouraged. Check the event pages before you go, since details can change.
Our Little Havana tour runs daily at 11 AM and 3 PM. Tickets are $64.95 for adults and $49.95 for children ages 1 to 12, solo travelers are welcome, and you can cancel for free up to 24 hours before your tour.
